Rock in Ring!

Rings in general have a deeply rooted magical significance. Enchanted rings figure in many ancient folk tales. Incantations and folk spells for the protection of the wearer of rings are common motifs. Jul B. Dizon Jewellery does not promise any mysterious superstition but what we do promise is being fashionable with your accessories.

The way to wear rings nowadays is to go CHUNKY. Many of our designs in our new collection are of huge rocks and intricate designs that are considered conversational pieces. If it is a big ring, I say that it is best worn on the pointed finger for a louder statement. With the vast availability of cut stones, the possibilities are almost endless with designing something that is just right for you.

I must tell you that not all ladies can carry off a chunky ring. Some opt for the classic and simple design which is also good but it is best to put yourself out there, be experimental with your look and WOW them with your great fashion sense.

EAR you Go!

You may wear a $5,000 gown and $3,000 pair of shoes and $10,000 purse but you still won't look complete without ear candy more popularly known as earrings. Yup, without these babies, you might as well wear shorts, t-shirt and flipflops but even then, you should be wearing one. At least, that's how I feel about it.

Earrings are a necessity when it comes to fashion. There are different kinds of styles which you may choose from. There's the stud, huggies, dangling, loop and chandelier. Although most women look good in any style, there are some who might want to stick to a kind that compliments the shape of their faces. For me, it's gotta be dangling because i have a round shaped head and the dangling earrings elongates my face (plus it is flirty and fun, hihi) So for this blog, let me show you some dangling earrings that we have in our collection.

JANINA by Jul B. Dizon Jewellery

It was May 2, 2007 when a dream came true for Janina D. Hoschka, daughter of Jul B. Dizon, along with her husband, Toby, when they finally had their soft opening of JANINA by Jul B. Dizon at The Peninsula Manila. This store showcases the fine collection pieces that Janina designs.

The ultra chic shop was drawn up and executed especially for them by the famous Ito Kish. He worked around the general theme of the jewellery and created something clean, classy, young and modern. Some of the showcases were made by furniture exporter, Rene Alcala, owner of Domicillo.




Her collection is fun, unique and colorful yet elegant. Precious stones such as yellow opal, kunzite. jade, among others, are all designed with a modern oriental feel. They are very conversational and not at all expensive. She tapped on using different kinds of material that make them unique like ivory, carahorn, onyx, oxidized silver, shagreen and wood.



On their very first day, a very important client of mine, Ms. V. Yuchengco wanted to see what Janina has to offer a jewellery lover like her and lo and behold, it wasn't even a good 10 minutes when I showed her a ring that she must have. It was a beautiful rough diamond petalled flower with brilliant cuts scattered around it. It fit her and she never took it off. It is always a great feeling when you make someone happy with their purchase.


Diamonds are also part of the Janina line and it is good to know that she uses only top quality stones for her discerning clientelle. This is a magnificent pendant with multi-shaped diamonds set in an invisible mounting. It falls beautifully on the neck and the sparkle of the diamonds add glamour and class to any woman who wears it.


Big chunky rings are also abundant in her collection. This is a 10 carat citrine with tsavorite mounted in black gold. This design is a conversation piece because it uses a different technique to mount the stone. It takes a certain kind of personality to be able to carry this off because of the very unique design.


South sea pearls with diamonds all around it with a dangling oval kunzite is displayed but I am almost certain that it won't last long in the showcase because this pair of earrings has got SOLD written all over it. The pink hue and brilliance of the kunzite shows that it is of top quality. A pair that truly belongs to a someone who knows the value of a great art work.


This creation is a new take on tennis bracelets. It is designed as a chain that you normally purchase in a hardware store but this time, it is studded with multi colored sapphires in blackened silver. It can also be connected to a ribbon or a simple chain to lengthen it so that you may wear it as a necklace as well. A terrific way to stand out and show off your superb taste on jewellery to your friends.


Ms. V. Yuchengco fell in love with this ring as well. This is an oval jade with diamonds and rubies set around it. The band is also made of jade and we all know that it is a very valuable stone. This baby is to die for but utmost care must be taken when wearing this piece because of it's fragility. Nevertheless, I would forget that Louis Vuitton bag and go for this magnificent ring that will bring not just beauty to your hands but also luck to your life.

Rock it to me baby!

I am basing this blog on knowledge that I have acquired from the jewellery industry and the book, GEM STONES, by Cally Hall. If you are a jewellery collector, it is a must to have this book because of the information it holds regarding stones that you might not have ever heard of but would like to have.

I have chosen only a few of my favorite stones to write about but I believe that this post will have a part 2 so please watch out for that. If there is a stone/rock that you would like to know more about, please feel free to ask me and I would be more than willing to research for you.

They are mostly known as semi-precious stones. Now, if you really analyze this term, there is nothing semi about these stones because they are all real. Created by Mother Earth through time, it is mined, cut and polished just like diamonds are. I prefer to call them simply as precious stones. Now, to differentiate these from the expensive rocks like diamonds, rubies, emeralds and blue sapphires, these stones you call gems. Semi-precious just doesn't work too well with me because I love my babies and they should be treated with utmost respect.

AMETHYST is a crystalline quartz in shades of purple, lilac, or mauve. The largest source of amethyst is in Brazil although you may also find in Canada, Sri Lanka, India, Uruguay, Madagascar, USA, Germany, Australia, Namibia and Zambia. It is not an expensive stone because of its abundance. But purple is fun to work with especially when mixed with other vibrant colors. Amethyst has been imitated by glass so beware.


TOURMALINE comes in many different colors such as fuschia, blue, yellow, pink, watermelon (mix of pink and green), brown, green and even black. Its origin is mostly from Brazil, South Africa, USA, Canada, Mexico, Australia, Madagascar and Myanmar. A lot of the tourmalines today are heat treated to make the color even more intense or even to lighten. JBDJS uses a lot of this gem because of the many available hues and cuts suppliers offer.


AQUAMARINE is a favorite of my clients. The color is cool to the eyes and it sparkles much like a diamond. Today, the most valued colors are sky blue and dark blue. It is often cut with the table facet parallel to the length of the crystal in order to emphasize the deepest coloration. The best gem quality aquamarine is found in, once again, Brazil. But you may also find these stones in Russia, Afghanistan, Pakistan, India and more recently exploited, Nigeria. Almost all aquamarine on the market has been heat treated to enhance the color, but it does not mean the value goes down because of this. Care must be taken not to overheat the stones, as they become colorless. If you want a darker blue variety, this usually occurs in Madagascar.


CITRINE is the yellow and golden yelow variety of quartz. The yellow coloration, due to the presence of iron, is also responsible for the name, derived from the word citrus. Natural citrine is usually a pale yellow, but rare, most citrine on the market is heat-treated amethyst. Gem quality of this stone is rare but the best material comes from where else, Brazil, Spain, Madagascar and Russia. Is it a birthstone? No. But I love working with this stone because it is cheap, brilliant and good for our asian skin tone.



KUNZITE is a relatively new stone. It is a variety of what is called Spodumene which has a hue of lilac-pink. Very popular nowadays because of its very attractive color and brilliance. This stone should always be cut to show the best color through table facet. The pink color may fade in time, especially when it is under direct heat or light, but some stones are already irradiated to intensify the heat. Once again, Brazil is the origin this stone but it can also be found in Madagascar, Myanmar, USA, Canada, Mexico and Sweden.



TOPAZ occurs in a range of different colors. There's deep golden yellow, pink, blue and green. PInk topaz is are the most valuable but very rare. Topaz occurs in rocks such as pegmatites, granites and volcanic lavas. It may also be found in alluvial deposits as waterworn pebbles. Brazil, USA, Tasmania, Pakistan, Japan and Mexico are some of the sources of topaz. It is a relatively inexpensive stone and comes in many cuts and sizes.



Now for the fun part, designing. Sometimes, it is better to NOT think too hard on details that you want to put around the stone. Putting them together as is might already look great as long as the stones are of good quality as it will totally make a difference when it is designed, executed and worn. Buy from reputable stores or dealers. There are a lot of imitation stones and if you do not know much about it, you may waste your money. Make sure that when it is designed for you, that it is something that you see yourself wearing. Better yet, come to JBDJS and I will make sure you get exactly what you want.
